Story
Once upon a time, there lived a blind biwa virtuoso Hōichi at the Amida Temple in Akamagaseki. One summer night when the priest was out, a warrior in armor came to visit, claiming that his master wanted to hear Hoichi’s biwa. The blind Hoichi was taken by hand by a samurai to a magnificent mansion where the lord’s family was staying. The audience, who appeared to be nobles, were moved to tears when Hoichi played the Tale of the Heike with his magnificent biwa, and the lord liked it so much that he asked him to come for six more nights in a row. And since this trip is a “secret” one, Hoichi is made to promise not to tell anyone about it…

Born in Gunma Prefecture. Lives and works in Kawaguchi City, Saitama Prefecture. After working as a voice actor for animation and video games, she has performed in picture book readings and readings of children’s literature, etc. Since 2019, she has been working on the creation of “narrative drama,” a new attempt to tell a literary work by playing different characters, and has performed it in various venues “Ogawa Chinatsu Theater”.
Her repertoire includes works by literary giants such as Soseki Natsume, Ogai Mori, Ryunosuke Akutagawa, and Osamu Dazai, children’s stories by Kenji Miyazawa and Mimei Ogawa, mysteries and science fiction by Rampo Edogawa and Shinichi Hoshi, and foreign works by O Henry and Saint Exupery “The Star Prince”.
In addition to performances in Tokyo, Saitama Prefecture, and his hometown in Gunma Prefecture, he also gives regular performances at Jochi-ji Temple in Kita-Kamakura and monthly online performances via Zoom, and is working to popularize a new way to enjoy literature: live literary “storytelling theater.

Studied under the late Kyokushi Aoyama (2nd head of the Reisei-ryu Chikuzen Biwa Preservation Society) in 2005. Passed NHK Japanese Traditional music audition in 2015 Awarded the Encouragement Prize at the Kumamoto National Traditional Japanese Music Competition in 2016 and 2018.
In 2018, she won first prize at the 55th Japan Biwa Music Competition, and She also received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award, the NHK Chairman’s Award, the Japan Biwa Music Association Chairman’s Award, the Tsuji Seigou Award, the Tsuruta Kinshi Award, and the Ishida Biwa Shop Award, making her a leading performer in both name and reality.

Born in Kumamoto City, Japan and currently living in Tokyo, Mr. Tomita has been involved in radio work for over 20 years and has launched numerous programs, commercials, events, and web projects.
In 2008, he participated in the business revitalization of Fukuoka Cross FM, and went independent as “tomitaproduce” in 2012. Utilizing his expertise in program production and media production, he is involved in content creation, management planning, information dissemination, and other consulting services for small businesses and local governments.
He has also written and directed the Heike Monogatari (The Tale of the Heike) stage play “The City Beneath the Waves”, Musashi Miyamoto and Shinsaku Takasugi’s rokyoku works for the Kanmon Time Travel Project, and all of the Literature Live productions for the Ogawa Chinatsu Theatre.
